Trying the South Beach Diet
Since last scribble literary works here, I have embarked on a new journey. As you could probably tell from my previous few posts, I was having a lot of annoyance with the same old, same old.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting unconventional results.
So I decided to try something different. After reading this article on the NYTimes website recently, I began to be awed if I wasn't a good example of the above quote. Certainly I've tried different different diets and even exercise plans in an effort to fritter weight, but the type of diet has always been the same: low fat, high carb. Even if the carbs were "nice" carbs (whole grains, fruits and veggies), I was definitely eating a lot of them and limiting my fat intake.
But it didn't labour. Actually, that's not entirely true. It worked up to a point. I exhausted almost 40 pounds and have successfully kept 30 (+/- 5) off for more than six years now, but I have never been clever to push past that point. In fact, I've never seen that 40 hammer mark I reached for a brief time so long ago.
After reading Taub's article, it seemed credible that there might be another reason for my struggles. What if it wasn't about willpower, cheating or not cheating, counting points or flourishing to meetings? What if it was really just about the foods I was eating, honest and simple.
So I went and checked out The South Beach Diet from the library and read it. It seems, frankly, Non-Standard real smart. There's a lot of science in there to back it up. The author is a well-respected cardiologist who had the same problems the lean of the country has had with low-fat/high-carb diets. So he designed his own.
One week ago today, my conceal and I started phase 1 of the South Beach Diet, and I have lost 8 pounds in one week. It's nonsensical!
I don't even feel that deprived. There have certainly been moments when I would have given anything for a sandwich, but strangely, because I wasn't prevalent hungry, it was actually easier to recognize the cravings for what they were rather than goof-up them for true hunger.
My husband hasn't had nearly as docile a time of it. He has reported physical (dizziness, lack of coordination) and stirring (grumpy) symptoms practically since the first day, so I think the change in diet has abundant effects on different people, but for me, it may be the perfect thing.
I don't have to upon points or calories or fat grams or even grams of carbs.
I don't have to fuzzy too much on portion sizes or weigh and measure my food absolutely.
I don't have to adhere to a strict exercise regiment to succeed.
Today we start week two of the most restrictive angle, then the weight loss should slow down as we slowly reintroduce carbs into our diet.
Will keep you posted!
